Even today, with all of the changes in the field of print, experience should be one of the key qualities a print buyer or graphic designer should consider. Printers who have stayed on top of the changes in the printing industry and have remained in business over the years have a wealth of knowledge to share. This knowledge, gained through their years of experience, is beneficial because the printer can foresee potential problems with a job that may come down the road. They can advise a designer, at the start of their project, as to why a particular stock, binding method, etc. may not be right for their job.  By making some simple changes at the beginning of the project the job can be produced efficiently and effectively. In the end, the client will receive the job they envisioned.

As a print buyer or graphic designer it is a important to establish a good relationship with your printer or, for that matter, any supplier. By working together as partners you will gain the confidence that you need to have with your printer when that tough project with the impossible deadline arrives. You will have someone to count on to make the impossible happen or to tell you the truth, that it really can not be done!

Do you have this type of relationship with your printer?
